Styrax officinalis is its aromatic resin is extracted from the bark of the tree. This resin, called storax, is known for its intense balsamic, sweet and slightly woody scent. Its aroma is highly appreciated in perfumery and in the production of incense. The resin, which is collected through incisions in the bark of the tree, solidifies into rubbery-resinous masses.
